Rivers United may host Confederation Cup final’s first leg May 12

Nigeria’s sole surviving club in CAF’s inter-club competitions, Rivers United, are billed to host the first leg of the Confederation Cup final if they qualify for the title game.

Rivers United will host USM Alger of Algeria in the first leg of their quarterfinal tie in Uyo on Sunday and travel to Algiers a week later for the return leg.
Should they win the tie and go ahead to beat their semifinal opponents, the Port Harcourt-based team will play the first leg of the final in Uyo on May 12.

According to a statement by CAF yesterday, “the first leg of the Confederation Cup finalbe played on Sunday May 12. The second leg will be the following weekend, on Sunday May 19.

Young Africans of Tanzania (YANGA) eliminated Rivers United at the quarterfinals of the competition last season, but there is strong optimism that the Pride of Rivers will go all the way this term despite playing against the defending champions, USM Alger, in the quarterfinals.
