• Commences academic activities in new satellite campuses

The Management of Rivers State University (RSU) has announced the commencement of academic activities at the university’s satellite campuses in Ahoada, Emohua and Etche councils of the state.

The Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Nlerum Sunday Okogbule, while highlighting the achievements of the institution, yesterday, in Port Harcourt said the satellite campuses would boost social and economic activities and improve development of host communities and their neighbours.

Recall that the state Governor, Nyesom Wike, had, on February 2021, released N9 billion for the take-off of the three campuses. Each of the campuses got N3 billion to cater for faculty building, lecture halls, offices, hostels, among others.

The state government had noted that the establishment of the campuses will open up activities, create employment and reduce unrest.

The vice chancellor said: “We are starting with Year One students on these campuses. The other levels would move to the campuses on a gradual basis beginning from next year.”

He disclosed that the institution has secured full accreditation for 24 courses by the National University Commission (NUC).

He said, no programme in the university was denied accreditation and none was given interim accreditation.

While commending Wike for support for the development of the institution, the vice chancellor also lauded the Justice Iche Ndu-led Governing Council, all academic and non-academic staff of the University for working hard to achieve the feat.
