Ronaldinho Keen On Securing Champions League Spot With The Rossoneri

AC Milan playmaker Ronaldinho is focused on clinching automatic qualification for the Champions League today afternoon.

The Rossoneri will secure a third-placed finish in Serie A if they beat Genoa at the Luigi Ferraris stadium or if closest challengers Sampdoria fail to triumph at Palermo.

Ronaldinho has endured speculation about his future with Milan, having yet to extend his contract, which expires in June 2011.

The 30-year-old has enjoyed a solid campaign with Leonardo’s side, leading to reports in Italy that he may be a target of several European clubs.

However, the Brazilian star insists he is fully focused on the Rossoneri.

“My main priority right now is to help Milan qualify directly for the Champions League,” said Ronaldinho on the club’s official website.

“I have to be honest, I only have our last two league games in my mind and to get the points needed to achieve that.

“I have enjoyed a great season and I am proud of what I have done so far. What I have done so far gives me a big motivation to continue to do well.

“I will think about the future only when this season is over.”

Ronaldinho struck his 10th goal of the campaign from the penalty spot to hand Milan a 1-0 victory over Fiorentina in the last round.

The result kept the Rossoneri in third place, four points clear of Samp with two games remaining.

“I was very happy to have scored that penalty and to have helped the team take three crucial points,” said Ronaldinho.

“But the season is not over. We have been training really well this week and we arrive to the game at Genoa full of optimism to do well.

“In our minds, our only aim is to reach the Champions League but we know the game against the Rossoblu will be a difficult one.”
