Rotary Club celebrates New Year’s first baby, staff excellence


The Rotary Club of Lagos Central, yesterday, honoured the first baby of 2024 and recognised an exceptional staff of Lagos Island Maternity Hospital.
The first baby, a girl born at 12:10 a.m., and her mother, Kelechi Precious Opara, were celebrated with gifts and a monetary reward of N100,000. The subsequent second and third babies were also acknowledged with gifts and cash of N50,000 and N40,000 respectively.


President of the club, Yomi Benson, who shared his joy in welcoming the first baby of the year, expressed profound congratulations to the new mother and reiterated the club’s commitment to supporting the families.

He remarked on the significance of the gifts as symbols of the new journeys and challenges the families will encounter. Director of Clinical Services and Training, Simeon Omoruyi Bazuaye, representing the Medical Director/CEO of the maternity, Femi Omololu, commended the club’s enduring support.

He reflected on the challenges of the past year but affirmed the hospital’s commitment to excellence and growth.

The event also featured an awards ceremony recognising the dedication and excellence of the hospital members of staff. Agboola Danjuma Toyosi and AtoloyeFaidatMotunrayo received awards in the senior and junior categories, respectively, for their outstanding service.

In closing, Benson praised the award-winning staff members for embodying the Rotary Club’s values of service, community commitment, and the pursuit of excellence, encouraging them to continue being an inspiration in their work and community.
