Russell Wilson Opens Up About Becoming a Stepfather to Ciara’s Son

In a podcast interview, football quarterback, Russell Wilson reflected on his journey to fatherhood, specifically discussing his role as a stepfather to his wife Ciara’s son, Future Zahir Wilburn, who she had from her previous relationship with rapper Future.

Wilson, 35, said that he met Ciara in 2016 and instantly felt a connection with both her and her young son, then a mere nine months old.

He described it as a powerful experience, sharing, “When I walked in the room and saw little Future… he crawls in my lap and it was like, ‘This is going to be my responsibility.'”
Fueled by his faith and a strong sense of commitment, Wilson embraced this responsibility.

He acknowledged the initial doubt, stating, “It was scary but it was more so of an opportunity. Like, ‘Okay God, this is what you want me to do?'”

Comparing his situation to Joseph, the father figure of Jesus, Wilson said, “Jesus himself… like Joseph was – Joseph was a stepdad,” highlighting the unique yet significant role he was stepping into.

Wilson also revealed what solidified his decision that Ciara was the one for him. He explained how encountering her aligned perfectly with his previously established “non-negotiables” for a future partner.

These values included faith, loyalty, personal identity, the capacity for deep love, and a positive impact on others.

“I never forget, right before I met C, I wrote out my five non-negotiables,” he confessed, emphasizing his belief in marriage being a “business deal” at its core, requiring a strong foundation of shared values.

Remarkably, after praying and writing down his desired qualities in a partner, Wilson met Ciara within three days. They tied the knot in 2016 and have since welcomed three more children together: Sienna Princess (6), Win Harrison (3), and Amora Princess (2 months).
