Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, yesterday, pledged to give what it takes to make Lagos, especially Badagry axis of the state, a tourist destination.

Sanwo-Olu stated this after visiting some historical sites in Badagry, accompanied by some of his cabinet members and lawmakers in the state.

These tourist sites visited include the Badagry Slave Market Museum International, Vlekete shrine, Badagry/Enslavement gallery, Badagry Heritage Museum, First Storey building built in 1842 and the state government chalet, among others.

Sanwo-Olu also took a boat ride to the point of no return where slaves were taken to different parts of the world.

“It’s really part of our tourism ecosystem and I have had to come and see things for myself to evaluate what we have done, additional things that we need to do, including how we can intentionally make Badagry, with all of the tourism potential that it has, a real destination.

“We also went to old Governor’s Lodge where you saw that there is a purpose-built seventy-rooms and hotel complex there.

“For us, it is to complete the ongoing projects that we have seen and to restock some of the heritage sites that we have seen and to generally preserve what we have and speak to a compelling story about what Badagry holds for the tourism potential of our country.”

“You have also seen that Badagry is actually having a major faces, there are lots of roads that you have seen, dual carriage roads that are nearing completion and you have all seen that we came around the last time to open a hospital, you have seen road that they have all been done extensively and indeed Badagry, I am very impressed because it’s actually wearing a more cleaner road.

“So, these are journeys that hitherto take almost four hours, we have experienced it ourselves and I can see that the citizens are very excited.

“Really, is to make sure that no part of Lagos is left under-developed and tourism being a major cardinal point of our THEMES AGENDA, I needed to come and see things for myself too and also see how we can help.”
