Sanwo-Olu says education must enhance national, personal development

The First Lady of Lagos State, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, has handed over 100,000 copies of the renewed hope initiative exercise books for public primary school pupils and junior secondary school students in Lagos State, stating that education should enhance national and personal development.

Speaking at the handing over ceremony, Sanwo-Olu said the donation is part of the efforts being championed by the National Chairman of Renewed Hope Initiative, and wife of the President, Senator Oluremi Tinubu to promote education.

“The Renewed Hope Initiative under its Education Support Programme (RHIESP) has donated and handed over 100,000 copies of Exercise Books to the Lagos State Government through my humble self, First Lady of Lagos and RHI State Coordinator in a bid to support the learning needs of students in Lagos State.

“No doubt, her Excellency, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu (CON) believes that educating a child is of tremendous personal benefits to the society at large. Education enables children to realize their full potential to think, ask questions and judge independently. Ultimately, education empowers them to take control of their lives, their families, and their future.

“The legendary Nelson Mandela said “education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”. Educating the younger generation is necessary for the attainment of Millennium Development Goals, especially as pertains directly to education which lowers illiteracy rate.”

She said that the books, 100,000 copies, will be distributed to public primary school pupils and junior secondary school students through the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education and the Executive Chairman of Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB), to ensure they reach those who need them most.

“Therefore, let me encourage our younger generation present here and across that you can become whatever you desire to be in life. Whatever you can conceive, you can achieve provided you are truly determined to pay the price. I implore you to have the right attitude, in all you do, strive to reflect nothing but excellence in academics and your day-to-day affair.”
