Sanwo-Olu’s wife urges children to be Christ-like

Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu
Implores them to obey their parents, shun vices, commit to education
Wife of Lagos State Governor, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, has encouraged children not to lose track of the significance of the Easter season, but to imbibe the spirit of tolerance, peaceful co-existence, and sacrifice for one another, which Jesus Christ demonstrated throughout His period on earth.

The governor’s wife, while speaking, yesterday, during the 2024 Lagos State Family Easter fiesta with the theme, “Power of Resurrection,” organised by her office for children across the state, also admonished children to obey their parents, shun all forms of vices, be committed to their education, and most importantly let the fear of God reign supreme in them.

She said: “It is pertinent to note that the initiative of the Family Easter Fiesta allows us to commemorate the crucifixion and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.

“The resurrection of Christ signifies the central doctrine in Christianity and firmly symbolises the greatest love of God for mankind. Jesus Christ paid the supreme price to reconnect humanity with divinity after the fall of man in the Garden of Eden.

“Through the victory of Christ over death, all believers will subsequently have a taste of his victory over sin and death.

“To this end, Easter represents an important season for Christians and is celebrated globally as a time to reinforce the virtues of sacrifice, charity, love, and absolute faith in God.”

“The theme for this year’s festivity taken from Philippians 3:10, explains to us that through the sufferings of Christ, we are meant to go deeper in our relationship with him. And that was the aim of Paul’s life, a deeper relationship with Jesus.”

Sanwo-Olu stressed that the resurrection of Christ should be a constant reminder for everyone to extend the virtues of selflessness, love, sacrifice, and tolerance.

“Besides our tradition, the Family Easter Fiesta also provides a unique platform to pray for our children, admonish them with the word of God, show them love and care, listen to their yearnings and aspirations, and share in their excitement, while also presenting them with amazing gifts to truly make the Easter celebration worthwhile and memorable,” she said.

She, therefore, called for the collective prayers of everyone during this season for the peace and progress of the nation and state, saying that by collective efforts, God will prevail over our nation.

In his goodwill message, the state’s Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Jamiu Alli-Balogun, thanked the First Lady for organising the Easter Fiesta as it provides the children not only an opportunity to have fun but to also learn.
