Club delivers healthcare support to women, children

The Rotary Club of Lekki Golden in the course of executing the project, Maternal and Child health initiative, Project Safe Start, visited Orchid Road General Hospital and BioSci Health Care, where it delivered critical healthcare support to women and children in underserved communities across the Ikota area, Lekki, Lagos.

The project falls under the seven areas of focus of Rotary International. At the event, exercise carried out included distribution of 100 mosquito nets (adult and infant-friendly) to protect vulnerable families from malaria; provision of 50 sickle cell screening kits to promote early detection and better health outcomes for newborns; launch of Dress a Dream, a heartwarming effort that gave clothing to children in need.

There were also on-site health checkups for over 70 women, conducted by doctors and nurses from Orchid Road General Hospital with focus on maternal wellness and preventive care.

Speaking at the occasion, the President of the club, Christiana Okenla, hinged the success of the programme on the club’s collaboration with medical professionals of Orchid Road General Hospital and BioSci Health Care, as well as sponsors made up generous corporate and individual partners.

“Expression of this project’s success would not be complete without mentioning the unwavering commitment of sponsors, medical partners and volunteers whose collective efforts brought the vision of Safe Start to life.

“Their support which cannot be divorced from service filled with compassion has brought hope, health, and healing to countless families” she said.

Okenla reaffirmed the club’s commitment to future programmes that would champion health equity and education which would impact on vulnerable communities.
