The world is ready for African fashion, and we are ready to dress it – Adaeze Ugwu

Virginia Adaeze Ugwu, founder and Creative Director of Ginasparks Fashion House is revolutionising bridal fashion by creatively blending cultural heritage with refined global elegance.

The former banker-turned fashion designer is shaping a movement, inspiring a new generation of African designers to draw inspiration from their heritage. Each gown represents a dialogue between heritage and personal expression. Her signature design style includes lush fabrics, intricate beadwork, bold colors, and silhouettes that celebrate every curve.

From Lagos to international runways, Adaeze’s designs have become synonymous with sophistication, tradition, and timeless beauty, as evident from her viral Isiagu wedding gown design.

In a recent event, one of her stunning, tradition-infused wedding gowns rooted in Igbo cultural aesthetics was worn at a formal wedding ceremony in Canterbury, United Kingdom. The gown didn’t just go viral, it ignited a larger conversation and marked the beginning of a fashion revolution: a growing demand for luxurious, culturally relevant bridal wear designed by African hands.

“Fashion is a cultural export. What we achieved with one gown sparked global interest. Imagine what we could do with more support – policy, funding, platforms. The world is ready for African fashion, and we are ready to dress it. Every dress we make tells a story, and our story is Nigerian. Our story is powerful, our story is beautiful,” she enthused.

Serving women who understand the power of elegance – women of identity, ambition, and taste, Adaeze’s work is demystifying the idea that weddings must follow Western conventions, paving the way for indigenous traditions to take centerstage. “Yes, I am proudly a second-generation fashion designer. My work as a designer goes far beyond a single nationality. I design for women everywhere – brides and elegant ladies from Lagos to London, New York, Atlanta, and Edmonton. Whether you are Yoruba, Hausa, Efik, Tiv, or Fulani,” Adaeze shared.

Specialising in high-end bridal couture, custom gowns, asoebi, and ready-to-wear collections, Adaeze’s designs are sought after by Nigerian women across Europe, North America, and the Middle East – women who crave more than just a dress, but a statement. Her fashion house, Ginasparks, based in Ogba, Lagos, has become a haven for women of style, substance, and cultural pride. “Brides no longer want to fit into someone else’s idea of beauty, they want gowns that reflect who they are – their roots, their class, their dreams. That’s what I give them. It doesn’t matter where in the world they are. When a bride walks down the aisle in Ginasparks, she’s unforgettable.” Adaeze noted.
