Passionate about giving the Nigerian fashion, beauty and wellness industry a deserved attention, Nigerian banker, Angela Jide-Jones recently brought together stakeholders in the industry under one roof at La Madison Place, Lekki, Lagos for the maiden edition of Imose (an Edo language for beautiful) Exhibition.
The fashion industry is one of the largest in the world, worth billions of dollars. It is a fast-paced, ever-changing industry that has the power to influence global trends and cultural norms. Designers, influencers, and celebrities are the driving force behind fashion trends, but in Nigeria, while it has gained attention, more is lacking as foreign fashion gets prioritised over local made and talents.
To change this narrative, Ms Jide-Jones, created Imose as a platform where beauty meets fashion and wellness and brings together entrepreneurs in the industries. She said: “I noticed that a lot of young people are in the beauty industry, making a living, training and creating jobs. What challenged me was that when I met these young people, I discovered that they developed other businesses; my makeup artist has gone into beauty supply. I saw the spirit, resilience and fearlessness and I thought that we could help them further by giving them a platform to thrive. I decided to put this together so that they can have access to show the world their talents, skills and work. To make it more sustainable and valuable, we decided to take 30 of them and we will mentor them for the next year and give them access to finance.”
On her part, Founder, FG Jewelry, Jennifer Ibadin, an exhibitor said: “This is my first time exhibiting and the outcome has been great. I have always been on the runway since I was a teenager and I just ventured into jewelry and I love the business. I was happy when I learnt about the exhibition.”
