Guinness Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to innovation, social impact, and cultural engagement as it celebrated its 75th anniversary in grand style.
At a commemorative event attended by top business leaders, senior government officials, industry veterans, entertainers, and media executives, the company reflected on a legacy that began with the introduction of Guinness stout to Nigeria in 1950 and the start of local brewing in Lagos in 1962.
Speaking at the ceremony, Guinness Nigeria’s Board Chairman, Professor Fabian Ajogwu (SAN), emphasised the company’s journey of excellence and its future aspirations.
“We celebrate more than a corporate milestone, we celebrate the spirit of excellence, resilience, and Nigerian ingenuity,” he said.Managing Director, Girish Sharma, echoed this sentiment, describing the 75-year milestone as a powerful symbol of trust and resilience.
Guinness Nigeria also received commendations from key stakeholders. Director-General of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, Segun Ajayi-Kadir (mni), described the company as a shining beacon, a testament to the potential of the Nigerian economy, and a pivotal player in Nigeria’s industrialization story.
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by the Commissioner for Commerce, Cooperatives, Trade and Investment, Folashade Ambrose-Medebem, praised the company’s far-reaching impact.
“Guinness Nigeria’s contributions transcend job creation—they have placed Lagos and Nigeria prominently on the global stage. Their pioneering efforts in talent development, innovation, and economic growth serve as a benchmark for businesses nationwide and a continuous source of pride for all Nigerians,” he said.
Beyond business, Guinness Nigeria has remained a consistent driver of social responsibility.
The company’s initiatives include the Guinness Eye Centres in Lagos and Onitsha, the Water of Life programme providing safe drinking water, Plan W which empowers women with entrepreneurial skills, and a nationwide undergraduate scholarship scheme.
