Soyombo, Dennis bag love for country award

The Electoral College Nigeria has named Fisayo Soyombo and Dooshima Dennis as recipients of its Love for Country Award in recognition of their exceptional contributions and dedication to Nigeria’s progress.

According to the organisers, the award celebrates individuals who exemplify patriotism, selflessness, and a commitment to building a better nation. Executive Director of the Electoral College Nigeria, Kunle Lawal, said Soyombo and Dennis have demonstrated unwavering passion for Nigeria’s development in the fields of journalism and public service.

Lawal said: “Soyombo, an investigative journalist and founder of the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ), has become a beacon for truth and accountability in Nigeria. His groundbreaking work has uncovered corruption, systemic failures, and human rights abuses, sparking conversations about reform and justice.

“Dooshima serves as a key figure in Nigeria’s fire service, where she has worked tirelessly to improve public safety and emergency response systems. Her career has been defined by her efforts to modernise fire safety protocols, advocate for better training of personnel, and raise awareness about fire prevention in communities.

“Her commitment to public service reflects a deep-seated belief in the importance of safeguarding lives and property as a cornerstone of national development.”

Lawal said the Love for Country Award aligns with the mission of the Electoral College Nigeria to promote patriotism, political literacy, and active citizenship.

“By honouring individuals like Soyombo and Dennis, the organisation hopes to inspire more Nigerians to contribute meaningfully to the country’s growth,” he said. He urged Nigerians to play their part in building a more unified and prosperous nation.
