Renowned Nigerian songwriter, gospel singer, and worship leader, celebrated for his powerful and soul-stirring music Mairo Ese (Oghenemairo Okechukwu Ese) has revealed that life’s experiences play a significant role in shaping his creative process.
According to the worship singer who is best known for hit singles such as ‘Nani Gi,’ ‘You Are The Reason,’ and ‘The Only God’, it is in the place of prayer that he mostly receives songs or sounds. “Reading, studying the Bible, and doing relevant research on life issues and experiences contribute to my creative process when developing these songs. The inspiration I receive during worship and all these form the foundation of my songwriting and music.”
On his journey in the music ministry, Mairo Ese said: “It began in Secondary School when I gave my life to Christ and joined the choir. As a child, I used to sing and I sang in a couple of places, however, it wasn’t until later in life that I realised that singing was a calling from God and a life assignment. This led me to singing full time. Before going into music full time, I had served in my church as a worship leader and eventually as a worship director. I resigned from my role to step into full time ministry because I am confident this is what God has called me to do. God’s call is why I do this and will continue to do it.”
Mairo Ese’s debut album titled ‘The Worship of Yahweh,’ was released in 2015, followed by his sophomore album, ‘Spirit and Life,’ in 2020. In 2022, he released ‘The Equipping (Tongues and Chants),’ a project that further established his unique sound and ministry. His most recent single, ‘Eternal God,’ featuring Prospa Ochimana, was released in 2024. Mairo Ese is also set to release a new single titled ‘In Your Presence,’ featuring Abbey Ojomu, which promises to be another profound offering of worship.
As a worship leader at heart, Mairo Ese is deeply committed to raising and leading worshippers across the globe. Through Revelatory Worship, a platform he founded, he is able to effectively teach and model the true essence of worship, helping others understand how to worship God in spirit and in truth.
Through this platform, he also hosts a monthly hybrid five-day worship experience, bringing believers together to worship in spirit and in truth. Revelatory Worship has held impactful events in various cities across the UK including Kent, Milton Keynes, Newcastle, Coventry, and Aberdeen, as well as in Ghana, drawing diverse audiences with its transformative approach to worship.
