Odumodublvck, The Cavemen, Sarz thrill fans with Ancestral Vibes

The Greasy Tunes Café recent experience was a memorable one. Held in Lagos, the three-week pop-up initiative, organised by Spotify, featured notable performances by Odumodublvck, The Cavemen and Sarz.

Odumodublvck delivered a bold and commanding performance that got the crowd vibing along as he showcased his lyrical flow, while embodying the raw attitude and spirit of hip-hop. His performance lit the atmosphere and set the stage charged.

The Cavemen brought back highlife and afro-funk to the stage, connecting the audience to their musical heritage with their soulful performance. Their performance served as the stunning emotional link, connecting the audience directly to the past. As the guests vibed to their rhythms, it proved that the ancestral groove is not a footnote, but the very DNA of the music they consume today.

Renowned producer, Sarz showcased his sound craftsmanship skills on the DJ deck, delivering a technically perfect and culturally powerful set that wrapped up the week-long experience.

The event also highlighted the growing presence of female artistes in the music industry, as stars like Moliy, Joyce Olong, Lady Donli and Goodgirl LA, delivered commanding performances, underscoring the importance of platforms like Spotify’s EQUAL Africa program in promoting women in music.

A panel discussion, ‘Loose Talk Podcast Live,’ explored the evolution of Nigerian hip-hop, tracing its roots back to pioneers like 2Baba. The panelists predicted that the next authentic wave of hip-hop would emerge from Eastern Nigeria, a forecast resonating with the audience’s appreciation for their roots.

This was further emphasized by a documentary screening on Ki’mon! The Eastern Nigerian Afro-Funk Revolution 1970-1980, which revealed the genre’s significance as a post-conflict sound of self-definition.
