In the five years since Tha Boy Myles piqued interest with his emotive style and soul-inflected music, the singer has moved with the dexterity of a virtuoso and the panache of a skilled operator. The singer’s voice’s elation has served as a tool for furthering his narrational desires. Born Ogunleye Olawale Michael, Tha Boy Myles has used his music to flesh out his thoughts on love, attraction, betrayal, and romantic bliss across spheres.
Tha Boy Myles’ rise has occurred tangentially to the come-up of singer, Raybekah, who is regarded as one of Afropop’s most talented rising acts. Born Rebecca Chinonso Arinola, she first piqued interest with her 2022 single, “EX BOYFRIEND,” before working her way up to a debut extended play, Lazy Girl, in 2024.
Teaming up in the new year, the duo are releasing a joining project that synthesises Raybekah’s bright, hyper-vivid style with the sappy, melodic croons that Tha Boy Myles has made a stock in trade. Aptly titled Birds Of A Feather, the six-track project—distributed by Africori—glistens with their reflections on the modern dynamics of love and relationships and the factors that aid romantic bliss.
Birds Of A Feather kicks off with “Gatchu,” a mellow reflection on the depths of service that romance can inspire as both singers sweetly sing about the things they’ll do for a romantic partner. Sprawling over a bouncy mid-tempo instrumental, Tha Boy Myles and Raybekah swap verses that course with a thrilling intensity. It sets the pace for “Nights Like This,” a swaying tribute to an escapist dream fuelled by attraction and love. By the middle point of Birds Of A Feather, both singers are finding ways to discuss weighty projects while retaining the core of their emotive approach. “Stay” is a cogent call for a lover to linger for a while that finds Tha Boy Myles and Raybekah oscillating between soulful singing and spitting molten flows.
Still, the most vivid moments on Birds Of A Feather come when they both channel their incandescent desires like on “Wet, Wicked & Wild,” a swashbuckling tribute to sensuality that ‘s sticky-sweet. On “Ogologoma,” set over skittering percussion, both singers colourfully detail the specifics of their feeling set to a maximal instrumental that compliments their fiery style of delivery. Things come to a head in traditional afropop stylistics, the project’s final track, “Rocki,” is a summon to the dancefloor that calls for lovers to pull out their best moves while simultaneously giving space to their inner desires.
Speaking about the project, Raybekah said that Birds Of A Feather was dedicated to people who are experiencing love: “It’s for the lovers; everything about how the project was designed and the sequencing is to celebrate love in its essence.”
Also, Tha Boy Myles described it as a project that has been coming for a long time. “We’ve always talked about linking up to do something and when we started we just couldn’t stop,” he explains. “We created these songs from a deep place in our hearts and we know that it’ll resonate with our fans.”
