Tems launches initiative to boost female representation in music

Committed to create a supportive ecosystem for young women in music, enabling them to find their voice, build their careers, and contribute to shaping the future of the industry, Grammys winner, Temilade Openiyi well known as Tems, has launched a groundbreaking platform and initiative dedicated to supporting, connecting, and amplifying the voices of women in music across the African continent.

Dubbed the Leading Vibe Initiative, the pioneering initiative seeks to bridge the gap in female representation in music by providing emerging artistes, songwriters, and producers with essential tools, resources, and networking opportunities. It is designed to support and amplify women in the African music industry, providing them with training, mentorship, and access to music production technology.

Announcing the initiative via social media, on Wednesday, July 2, the Broken Ear, Born In a Wild hitmaker described the platform as a space designed to champion female creatives and drive meaningful change within the music industry.

“I’m so proud to launch @leadingvibeinit. A platform to support, connect & amplify women in music across Africa,” she wrote.

Targeted at female artistes, songwriters, producers, managers and sound engineers between ages 18-35 and based in Nigeria, the program is set to begin its first activation next in Lagos, before expanding to other parts of Africa. The initiative reflects Tems’ long-standing commitment to challenging industry norms and creating space for more African women to thrive in music.

Tems is known not only for her chart-topping global success but also for her authenticity and advocacy, and is using her platform to make a lasting impact beyond the stage. Applications for the inaugural Lagos edition are currently open via leadingvibe.com, with the deadline set for Sunday, July 13.
