The Archbishop of Aba Ecclesiastical Province and Bishop, Diocese of Isiala Ngwa South Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), His Grace, The Most Reverend Isaac Nwaobia has urged President Bola Tinubu to step up and save the nation from total collapse by improving the national and local economy in addition to security and governance.

Nwaobia said this during his Bishop’s Charge at the three Session of the fifth Synod of his Diocese with theme: “The Master’s Plans For Family Discipleship” held at St. Matthias’ Church, Umueleghele. He noted that since after his swearing-in, President Tinubu had continuously pledged to turn the economy around and to ensure security across the country, but on daily basis, the country has continued to experience weak economy, rising unemployment and inflation, which is making it increasingly difficult for ordinary Nigerians to afford basic necessities.

According to Nwaobia, who is also the Chairman of Bible Society of Nigeria (BSN), Abia Area, said: “Families are struggling to put food on the table, access to healthcare and education is becoming more of a luxury than a right.

The economic hardship has left vulnerable people such as widows, orphans and the elderly in dire straits.” He lamented that the unity, co-existence, brotherhood and democratic aspirations of the nation, which is Africa’s largest economy, are challenged by social and economic challenges such as banditry, and kidnappings, among others.

While commending the Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, for the developmental changes witnessed so far in the state, Nwaobia said: “Expectations of Abians are much, God will help you not to disappoint them. Please, consider the benefits of Isiala Ngwa North and South Local Council Areas having functional government institutions such as hospitals, markets and institutions of higher learning. Kindly use your good offices to execute more legacy projects; all hands must be on deck. More grace to work.”
