A combined team of security personnel and local vigilantes have reportedly recovered seven decomposing bodies of police officers at a forest in Ohoror community, Ughelli North Local Council of Delta State.

The Guardian learnt that the bodies were those of police officers sent from IRT Abuja, PMF 51 Oghara, and the Anti-Kidnapping Squad, Asaba in Delta State to rescue three missing officers in the community.

The team combed the forest on Sunday and Monday and recovered the bodies of the officers, said to have been killed by herdsmen.

Recall that on January 24, three police officers arrived at Ohoror community, Ughelli North, in response to a distress call by one Moses Progress (now at large), who was allegedly robbed by suspected herdsmen while performing a sacrifice near the river. The three officers never returned.

A police source said the bodies of the officers have been deposited at the mortuary in Mariere Central Hospital, Ughelli.
