Security agencies to disarm Okaigheles, cultists in Edo

The Edo State Security Council has concluded plans to commence the disarming and flushing out of cultists and Okaigheles in all communities across the state.

Special Adviser to the Edo State Governor on Media Projects, Crusoe Osagie, who disclosed this in a statement, said that the state security agencies are set to commence a massive raid across the state to disarm and flush out the criminal groups.

He said that the move followed the ban on activities of the criminal groups by the State Security Council, as a result of data linking the groups to the alarming cult-related killings and homicides in the state, as well as recent attacks on soldiers in Okomu Community.

Recall that two soldiers and a police officer were shot on June 7, in Okomu Community, in Ovia South West Local Council of the state by suspected cultists.

Osagie noted: “Governor Godwin Obaseki has directed that the Security Council intensifies efforts to disarm and flush out all cultists and Okaigheles across the state.

“The security agencies are set to begin massive raids across communities in the state to disarm these criminal elements and neutralise their threat against public peace.”

In a statement, at the weekend, the state government, while reaffirming its decision to ban the activities of Okaigheles and cultists in Edo South communities, said that the State Security Council data showed that the two groups (Okaigheles and cultists) pose the most severe threat to the security and stability of the state. It noted that this has resulted in the decision of the council to place a total ban on the criminal groups.
