Security agents rescue six more abducted students of Kogi varsity

Confluence University of Science and Technology

Kogi State government has announced the rescue of six more students of Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara, bringing the number to 20.

Disclosing this in a statement, yesterday, Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, said data available to the government, showed that about four students were yet to be accounted for.

He said the fierce gun battle between security agents and the kidnappers forced the latter to abandon the students, adding that some of the abductors escaped with serious injuries.

Fanwo said nine students were rescued first, while five others were found the following morning.

“The families of the six that were rescued have confirmed that the students arrived home. The Governor of Kogi State, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has expressed deep appreciation to the joint forces that carried out the operations, urging them to continue the search until the last student is found.

“We wish to assure the public that the security architecture around our schools has been recalibrated for efficiency and early warning alarm to prevent future occurrence,” he added.
