Sejiro Avoseh opens debut Solo Exhibition at Kravets Wehby Gallery, New York

Sejiro AvosehWith an opening reception on Thursday May 18th, 2023 at Kravets Wehby Gallery, Sejiro shows how he’s using his kids, wife and friends as therapy in his new body of work.

Sejiro’s artistic practice has constantly evolved. This is seen in his new body of work, a continuous reflection of his ephemeral journey and striking representation of his thought processes. By submerging himself in his own experiences, his ever evolving and dynamic work reveals an evocative and thought-provoking expression.

In his own words, he shares a deeply personal reflection on his methodology: “My work lay ruminative of the frustration and disillusionment that arose from being an oppressed citizen in Nigeria”. This interplay of emotions was born out of my experiences as a migrant living in the spaces of those that colonized my homeland. My work seeks to navigate the tensions between these two worlds, highlighting the crucial and subtle role my family and friends are playing in creating a therapeutic inspiration and space for me to heal through these moments of displacement.

Having previously completed a successful one month residency at Danny first’s LaBrea studio residency in Los Angeles, selling out in a group show at Kravets Wehby gallery in January 2023 and a sold out before public opening at this debut solo exhibition, ‘Alien In Spaces’, Sejiro’s distinctive, and evolving paintings will continue to attract critical acclaim on his way to becoming a household name in the contemporary art scene.
