Seun Kuti, Kravitz, Marciszewer team up in new album

Kuti & Egypt 80 Band has announced American singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and actor, Lenny Kravitz as the executive producer of their anticipated album.


Fresh off an electrifying performance at the 2024 UEFA Champions League final, Kravitz, a four-time Grammy Award winner, will lend his multi-instrumental talents and unique musical vision to this highly anticipated album, which is scheduled for global release on October 4 through Record Kicks, and distributed by Secretly Distribution.

Joining this powerhouse collaboration is legendary French producer, musician and composer and engineer, Sodi Marciszewer, who is reputed for his work with Fela Kuti. His deep understanding of Afrobeat’s intricate rhythms and textures will add a layer of authenticity and continuity to the project, ensuring it resonates with longtime fans and new listeners alike.

Seun took over Egypt 80 band after Fela’s death in 1997 at only 14 years.

Throughout his career, Seun Kuti has released several acclaimed albums, including the Grammy-nominated Black Times. Beyond his music, he is a dedicated pan-African activist, involved in numerous campaigns such as the #EndSARS movement against police brutality in Nigeria. By reviving the Movement of the People (M.O.P.), his father’s political party, Seun continues to champion social justice and political activism.


The new album promises to be a milestone in the genre, blending traditional Afrobeat rhythms with fresh, innovative elements. Seun Kuti who is currently on tour of North America alongside the Egypt 80 band, will today be performing live at the Burlington Discover Jazz Festival in Burlington, VT. They will be live on stage tomorrow at the Portland House of Music in Portland, ME. Next port of call is Soundcheck Studios in Pembroke, MA on June 11, followed by Park City Music Haland in Bridgeport, CT on Wednesday, June 12.
