Seven injured, cows die in Lagos-Ibadan expressway multiple accident

Seven people were injured in an accident involving a Volvo truck, carrying cows, and two other vehicles on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Saturday.

The two other vehicles involved in the multiple accidents, which occurred at the Ibafo area of the expressway are a blue luxury bus and a white Mazda bus.

The spokesperson of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun, Mrs Florence Okpe, confirmed the incident to newsmen in Abeokuta, the state capital, on Saturday.

Okpe said that the accident occurred at 5:35a.m with 14 people and 16 cows involved.

According to her, the truck was conveying cows and human beings together.

She said that the suspected cause of the crash, which resulted in the death of some of the cows, was driver fatigue.

Okpe said that the persons injured in the accident were taken to Divine Touch Hospital, Ibafo for medical attention.

The Sector Commander, Mr Anthony Uga, according to her, has cautioned motorists on the dangers of carrying human beings and animals together.

She quoted Uga as advising motorists to always stop and rest for some minutes after four hours drive to avoid fatigue and be safety conscious.

Meanwhile, eyewitnesses said the luxury bus was parked at the bus stop and loading passengers when the truck rammed into it, taking it off the road before ramming it into shops and kiosks by the roadside.

Okpe confirmed that no life was lost in the Lagos-Ibadan expressway incident, saying, “No death was recorded. Nobody died. The accident involved three vehicles – a Volvo truck conveying humans, food, and animals; a white Mazda bus and a BRT bus.

“There were 14 people involved, and seven were injured. No life was lost. Those injured were taken to Divine Hope Hospital also in Ibafo.

“Also, from the 16 cows and other animals, the truck was carrying – some died with several others injured.”
