Vice President Kashim Shettima, yesterday, charged Nigerians to bury their differences and work for the betterment of the nation.

He also prayed to God to usher in an era that would enhance peace and development in all parts of the country.

Shettima made the appeal when he received the entire staff of his office on a condolence visit, following the recent death and burial of his stepmother, Hauwa Kormi.

While appreciating the gesture, he advised the employees to keep working as a team to achieve more.

His words: “May God usher in an era of peace and development for our nation, and let us work as a team and family, because what binds us together supersedes whatever divides us. Without working as a team, we cannot accomplish any goal.

“It is absolutely imperative that we bury our differences and personal animosities if there is any and look at the larger picture in the interest of the nation.”

Shettima also counselled those serving the nation at the seat of power to always consider the interest of Nigerians above theirs.

“You are working at the epicentre of power in Nigeria, and we are here not because we are better than our next door’s neighbour. It is an opportunity from God to impact positively on the lives of our people. Therefore, let’s maximally use this opportunity to improve the lives of all Nigerians,” he stressed.

Speaking earlier, Permanent Secretary, State House, Olusesan Adebiyi, while registering their condolences, beseeched God for repose of the soul of the deceased, who he described as a mother that invested her time in training the Vice President.

He thanked Shettima for being a mentor and father to all his staff.
