Slain DPO: Fubara lifts suspension on monarch

Bako Angbashim

Rivers State governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has lifted the suspension placed on the ruler of Akoh Ancient Kingdom, Cassidy Ikegbidi, Igbu Akoh II, over alleged complicity in the murder of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ahoada, SP Bako Angbashim.

The Guardian had reported that on September 9, 2023, the governor, in a statement, suspended the monarch indefinitely.

He was accused of allowing a notorious cultist, David Gift (a.k.a. 2Baba), and his gang to freely operate and carry out criminal activities in his territory.

Consequently, the governor placed a N100 million bounty on Gift, who has since been killed.

Head of Media/Publicity, Igbu-Akoh Palace, Cassius Nwikoro, confirmed the development in a statement yesterday.

The lifting of the suspension came barely 12 days after the decomposing corpse of the gang leader was recovered.

The monarch, who is standing trial over the alleged murder of Angbashim and sponsorship of cultism, could not contain his excitement when he received the news, even as he expressed gratitude to the governor.

He also pledged his support and that of the people of Igbu Akoh Kingdom to the administration of Governor Siminalaye Fubara.
