Soludo at inauguration seeks dialogue with IPOB, ESN, MASSOB, others

Why Bianca Ojukwu slap Obiano’s wife

Former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, who was sworn in, yesterday, as Governor of Anambra State in a ceremony witnessed by traditional rulers and some prominent citizens of the state, declared that the authorities should embrace dialogue to address agitations, especially in the South East region.

Specifically, he backed the recent statement of the Joint Body of South East Council of Traditional Rulers and Bishops/Archbishops on Peace and Conflict Resolution and recommended dialogue with the Presidency, South-East governors to deal with the conflicts in the South East especially in relation to Nnamdi Kanu and the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), the Eastern Security Network (ESN) and Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), among others

He said: “The current trajectory is a road to desolation. Let us get around the table and talk. Let the elite in the closet come out and let’s debate our future and forge a consensus. The elite conspiracy of silence and some community leaders should end.”

But his inauguration at the Government House, Awka, was almost marred by a fight between Mrs. Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu and former Governor Willie Obiano’s wife, Ebelechukwu.

The scuffle, during which Bianca Ojukwu reportedly slapped Obiano’s wife, did not prevent the state Chief Judge, Onochie Anyachebelu from swearing in the new governor at 9.45 a.m., shortly after the Deputy Governor, Onyekachukwu Ibezim, took his oath of office.

The Guardian learnt that fight arose when Obiano’s wife poured vituperations on Bianca to the effect that she swallowed her pride to attend Soludo’s inauguration after dismissing the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the November 2021 governorship election.

Obiano’s wife was said to have called Bianca some unprintable names, which forced her (Bianca) to slap her. Angered by the humiliation, Obiano’s wife held Bianca’s clothes and locked horns with her to the amazement of the dignitaries and the immediate past governor.

It was also learnt that the fight might not be unconnected with the cold war between Bianca and Obiano’s wife, which got to a head in 2019, when Bianca wanted to contest for the Senate.

HOWEVER, Soludo took over from Willie Obiano, who completed his second term of four years, just as the new governor performed his first task with the inspection of the Guard of Honour of the state Police Command.

He urged citizens of the state to commit his administration into the hands of God, promising that the new government will work hard to make the state proud.

Speaking shortly after the swearing-in, Soludo commended his predecessor for being a gentleman and pledged to start work immediately.
