Some patients, not all got financial support from Burna Boy, UPTH clarifies

The University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH) has issued a statement clarifying the details of Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, popularly called Burna Boy’s, recent visit to the hospital and support to patients within its facility.

The hospital management said while the musician’s generosity was widely reported, there was no direct payments made by Ogulu or his team to settle patient bills.

According to acting Public Relations Officer, UPTH, Elabha Ailexandřa Meni, only selected patients received financial assistance from the musician and his team.

While commending him for his charity, Meni emphasised that Ogulu’s kindness was targeted towards specific patients in need, providing cash gifts or donations to support their medical bills.

“We commend him and his team for their kindness and commitment to alleviating the financial burden of vulnerable individuals.” The hospital appreciated the musician’s support, which brought hope and relief to many patients.

“We commend his benevolence to some patients in our hospital with financial support to help them offset their bills.

“However contrary to the reports that the bills of all patients on admission to UPTH were paid during the visit, only selected patients received cash gifts or donations to pay their medical bills.

“The hospital did not receive any direct payments on behalf of patients from the musician and his team for settlement of patient bills.”
