UAC Foods Limited Empowers Kerang Community with Solar-Powered Borehole and Scholarship Awards to 20 Students from the Community
UAC Foods Limited (the “Company”), the makers of SWAN natural spring water (duly endorsed by the Nigerian Medical Association), Gala Sausage Roll, Kingsway Sausage Roll, Gala Chin Chin, Funtime Coconut Chips, Kingsway Bread, Supreme Ice cream and other dairy products, have once again demonstrated its commitment to fostering development and enhancing the well-being of the residents of the Kerang Community in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State. In a twin-pronged initiative, the Company commissioned a state-of-the-art solar-powered Borehole and awarded scholarships to twenty (20) deserving students from four (4) different secondary schools within the Kerang Community.
These impactful projects are part of the Company’s corporate social initiatives aimed at improving access to clean water and investing in the future of the Community’s youth. The Borehole, which is powered entirely by solar energy, also represents the Company’s commitment to sustainable practices and environmental responsibility.
The Borehole, which has the capacity to produce 3,600 litres of water per hour, will ensure a steady supply of clean water to the Community. The Company also installed water taps in strategic locations within the Community to enable easy access for all residents, contributing to a healthier and more sustainable environment. The Borehole will not only alleviate the challenge of water scarcity but will also promote hygiene and support the well-being of the people of Kerang.
Speaking during the commissioning of the Borehole, the Company’s Operations Manager – SWAN, Ms. Cecilia Shamaki, emphasized the Company’s unwavering commitment to the well-being of its host communities. “We are deeply invested in the well-being and growth of the Kerang Community and are proud to support the Community by providing essential infrastructure and empowering its youth. This Borehole will ensure that the people of Kerang have regular access to clean water, and we are thrilled to offer scholarships to students who are the future leaders of this Community,” she remarked.
The scholarship awarded to twenty (20) students covers tuition, school uniforms, and books. This will go a long way in relieving the families of the beneficiaries of the financial burden of paying school fees and other incidental school expenses, while promoting academic excellence in the Community. The recipients of the scholarship were selected based on merit, and this initiative further underscores the Company’s belief in the power of education to shape future leaders.
