The barracks team gave a strong fight in the male category of the championship, sweeping aside seven other teams to dominate the second edition of the Kano Volleyball Club 2.0 finals.
Besides the two teams that made it to the finals, the 2025 tournament featured 3 SVC, ECWA Power Spike, Saint Charles, Pyramid VC, ECWA Volleyball, and NAF Spikers.
In the female category, the Black Dolphins girls lifted the gold medal after defeating their counterparts, NAF Spikers, in the finals. ECWA Dragon Volleyball Club came third after beating 3 Stallion Girls.
The thrilling finals, which attracted young volleyball stars from within and across northern states including Kaduna, Jos, Sokoto, Niger, and Jigawa, marked the end of the second edition of the KVC 2.0 championship.
Special Guest of Honour at the occasion, Commandant of the 3 Brigade Nigerian Army, Bukavu Barracks, Kano, Brigadier General A. Tukur, applauded the performance of the 3 Stallion for clinching the gold medal.
The General remarked that beyond physical fitness and health, sport helps build relationships, foster national unity, and develop community.
“I am particularly pleased to say congratulations for winning the championship. I must say that I am very happy to be invited to watch this evening’s game. It was very competitive and quite entertaining. And we all know that sport is not just about physical fitness and our health.
“It is about building relationships, fostering national unity, and developing community. Just look at the environment here—everybody is happy, everybody is joyous. It is not just about physical fitness, but about what is bringing us together as a nation,” the Commandant said.
Addressing spectators at the finals, Chairman of KVC 2.0, Mr Michael Moses, expressed satisfaction with the success of the championship and the growth of volleyball in the region.
Moses disclosed that the tournament, which started last year with a dream to revive volleyball in Kano and provide a platform for young players, is generating the desired interest.
The chairman expressed gratitude to the Brigade Commander for his support and promise of court reconstruction, which will allow both male and female categories to run simultaneously in future editions.
“We thank our sponsors, supporters, volunteers, and individuals who have contributed to the success of the championship. We appreciate our players and wish for an enjoyable finals match. We want to assure the growth and sustainability of the championship with the support of various stakeholders,” Moses added.
