Super Falcons midfielder, Peace Ogebe, has taken to social media to express her frustration over the ongoing killings in her home state of Benue, particularly the recent attacks in the Idoma community.
In a heartfelt post shared on her social media handle, Ogebe lamented the relentless bloodshed that has plagued Benue State, revealing that the disturbing news emanating from the region has robbed her of sleep in recent days.
“I am just having sleepless nights these days because of what is happening in Benue State. Like seriously, I can’t just sleep. Why all the killings? What is their aim? I keep asking myself this question yet there’s no answer,” she wrote.
The football star also questioned the perceived silence from the government in the face of these persistent attacks.
She wondered whether the authorities were simply incapable of addressing the issue or were deliberately turning a blind eye to the suffering of the people.
“Why is the government quiet over these killings? Is it that they don’t know what to do, or they just intentionally want to be mute,” she added, punctuating her poignant message with tears and heartbreak emojis.
Ogebe’s emotional outcry comes in the wake of yet another series of violent attacks that have claimed the lives of several people in parts of Oturkpo and Otobi-Akpa within the Oturkpo Local Council.
Reports indicate that armed men have invaded villages in the area over the past week, unleashing terror on unsuspecting residents, setting homes ablaze, and forcing families to flee for their safety.
This latest wave of violence follows closely on the heels of similar attacks in early April, where at least 15 people were reportedly killed in separate assaults on farming communities in the Oturkpo axis.
Survivors of previous attacks recounted harrowing experiences of armed herders storming their villages at night and opening fire on innocent men, women, and children, leaving many with life-threatening injuries and scores displaced.
Peace Ogebe’s powerful message underscores the growing desperation and pain felt by many Nigerians over the continuing violence in Benue State and the perceived lack of adequate response from the government.
