The Guardian’s correspondent, 10 others win MTN’s EPL predict & win competition

The Guardian’s correspondent in Imo State, Dr Charles Ogugbuaja, was among 11 winners of the English Premier League predict and win watch party hosted by telecommunications outfit, MTN, in Owerri at the weekend.

The event held at the Coded Lounge, near the Federal Polytechnic, Nekede Road, had an audience comprising students, traders, the media and MTN staff members, among others.

Ogugbuaja won an MTN Nigeria wifi when he correctly predicted the outcome of the game between Liverpool and Manchester United, which ended 2-1 in favour of the latter.

Speaking at the event, MTN Nigeria’s Chief Marketing Officer, Onyinye Ikenna-Emeka, said the firm organised the event as a part of its “give back to society” activities, noting that the outfit also had a mission to capture the passion of Nigerian football fans as they watch the Premier League.

Ikenna-Emeka said: “At MTN, we believe every Nigerian deserves to be connected, seen, heard, and celebrated. That’s why we’re taking this experience across the country, from bustling cities to remote communities, ensuring no youth is left behind.”

The viewers, who predicted the game correctly, got gift items, including wifi, rechargeable LED lights and free airtime, among others.

In an earlier event hosted by MTN at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), a final year level student of the institution won a car worth about N30 million in a raffle draw, which also featured a dancing competition and lucky dip in August.
