Osimhen battles Hakimi, Salah for 2025 CAF Awards

Super Eagles talisman, Victor Osimhen, has been shortlisted for the 2025 African Footballer of the Year Awards, with his toughest challenge expected to come from Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi and Mohammed Salah of Egypt.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF), yesterday, unveiled the highly anticipated list of the 10 finalists for the award.  The list brings together the continent’s brightest stars, all of whom delivered exceptional performances for both club and country this season.

Apart from Osimhen, Hakimi and Salah, other nominees listed by CAF are Frank Anguissa (Cameroon – Napoli), Fiston Mayele (DR Congo – Pyramids FC), Denis Bouanga (Gabon – Los Angeles FC), Serhou Guirassy (Guinea – Borussia Dortmund), Oussama Lamlouhi (Tunisia – Étoile du Sahel), Iliman Ndiaye (Senegal – Everton) and Pape Matar Sarr (Senegal – Tottenham).

CAF had earlier listed Super Falcons’ Captain, Rasheedat Ajibade, and Esther Okoronkwo among nominees for the Women’s African Player of the Year award; Chiamaka Nnadozie for the Goalkeeper of the Year award, as well as Shakirat Moshood, and Ruth Mukoma for the Young Player of the Year award.
