Two Premier League footballers have been arrested over rape allegations.

The alleged rape incident is said to have taken place on Friday night.

According to UK publication, The Sun, Cops stormed the club’s stadium this weekend and one of the players, aged 19, was spoken to on suspicion of assault and aiding and abetting a rape.

It was gathered that he was allowed to leave the stadium after a brief interview before he was formally arrested.

The player spent the night in the cells and was later interrogated by detectives under caution.

His teammate, also 19, was arrested the following day and questioned on suspicion of rape.

On Monday night, police confirmed the players have since been released on bail pending further enquiries.

Their alleged victim contacted officers hours later and filed a formal complaint.

It is unclear if they have been suspended pending the outcome of the police investigation.

The Premier League has been plagued by a series of high-profile sex scandals involving top-flight players.

Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood, was suspended by the club in January 2022 after he was arrested by police for attempted rape, assault and controlling and coercive behaviour.

The 22-year-old is currently on loan at LaLiga side Getafe.
