Stakeholders advocate homegrown innovations to enhance learning

Technology experts have advised the Federal Government and other stakeholders to fast-track the adoption of education-technology solutions for learning among students.

They stressed a critical need for innovative solutions to drive the digital transformation of education across the country. The digital experts, who spokeduring a media briefing and facility tour of a newly-built cloud-based school management software company, Edutams iHub, located in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, highlighted the importance of leveraging technology to enhance learning experiences for Nigerian students.

They noted the potential of homegrown solutions to address the unique challenges faced by Nigeria’s education system. Founder of the cloud-based school management software company, Dr Ademola Adenubi, noted that homegrown innovations in education technology signal a shift towards a more inclusive and adaptive approach to digitalising the nation’s education system.

Adenubi emphasised the importance of collaboration among the Universal Basic Education Commission, Ministry of Communication, Innovation and Digital Economy, and local stakeholders to leverage homegrown solutions to digitalise the education system.

He said that 10 per cent of Nigeria’s public and private schools partially use technology to drive education services and delivery, hence, the need for greater collaboration to provide an overall value.

Adenubi, however, expressed Edutams’ commitment to supporting startups and fostering innovation in education through the provision of funding and incubation facilities at the newly built cloud-based school.

He also announced a N25 million grant to tech startups interested in building new innovative solutions. He said that the grant would help in creating more innovative solutions to drive the digital transformation in education.

On his part, President of Ogun Tech Community, Durosinmi Adekunle, said with collaborative efforts and unwavering dedication, Nigeria is poised to lead in harnessing the transformative power of technology for education.

Adekunle, who emphasised the importance of nurturing talent within Nigeria and empowering innovators to develop solutions tailored towards the country’s specific needs, however, lauded the innovation and assured Edutams of full support.
