Stakeholders in the Niger Delta region have raised concern over the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) initiative to build a worship centre when there are numerous challenges of under development across the region.
The Commission, in its official linked page, had announced a groundbreaking ceremony of an NDDC new worship centre, led by Pastor David Ibiyeomie of Salvation Ministries.
The Managing Director/ Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NDDC, Dr Samuel Ogbuku, explained that the initiative aims to cater for the spiritual needs of staff and worshippers at the NDDC Headquarters.
However, some residents have argued that the worship centre would fortify the staff spiritually, reducing issues of corruption and illegalities.
But reacting to the development, former Chairman of Rumuwoji Community, in Rebisi, Port Harcourt Local Council Area, Ike Wigodo, described, as unfortunate, the move by NDDC to take up a church building project when there are several gaps in developments of the region.
“The last time the NDDC held a stakeholders meeting, I was part of it, and one of my views then was that they have not done well since the creation of the agency. We expected the Commission to link all the Niger Delta communities through bridges, but, unfortunately, they have not done that.”
