Emmanuel Luther is from Delta State. He was born into a Christian home, with eight sisters and a brother. He studied Political Science at the Delta State University, Abraka. Since he made his foray into the entertainment world, he has not looked back. In this chat with Myles Igwe, he talks about his passion for inspirational music.

What do you really do for a living?

I have a production company that deals in movie, music, post-production and production management. We are also into information technology.

Your rise to fame, how did it all start?

It started from when I was a child. I grew up with the orientation to be successful, especially, looking at how my dad was able to bring up my nine siblings and I in a God-fearing manner. The fact that I’m from a very big family, I knew I had a lot to do. I started from a young age, doing all I could to help others and myself. This pushed me into the business world, trying to do all I could to survive. There wasn’t really any specific business at the beginning, just anything that could bring money. From then on, I got to a point that my passion for entertainment and music started burning, so, I started Medeji Company and to God be the glory, it’s been a success story.

Which of your many jobs excite you the most?

It’s music.

What other areas of your career are you looking to explore?

Right now, I’m so focused on making my entertainment company an international brand, where we would be making inspirational movies that touch and change the lives of people.

What has been the high point of your career?

I will say the evolution of Emmanuel Luther as an inspirational gospel artist. It took me over five years to decide whether I wanted to do inspirational and gospel praise songs, because earlier, I wanted to become an RnB artist, but after becoming more committed to my religion, and believing in the word of God, I started thinking of what message I would be putting out there with my kind of music.

 And what has been the lowest so far?

None. At every point in time, when things around me don’t look good, I feel there is a lifting up, because of my trust in God’s word. So, there has never been a low point.

What are the plans for the future, anything new?

First of all, my short-term target is, making my music acceptable locally and internationally, with that, lives can be changed around the world through my songs, and from then on, building an entertainment empire that would make the world a better place.

What does it take to be an inspirational/gospel artist?

I would like people to understand the kind of music I do. It is basically inspirational and praise songs. My inspirational songs talk about lifestyle — God’s creation. My gospel songs praise God with very danceable rhythm.

 What’s it about Praise Master, and why do people call you that?

Praise master has to do with, first the story behind my songs, what they stand for and the message I’m putting out there. It’s all about giving praises to God. So, my songs can be danced anywhere, and at the end of the day, pass a message to the people on why they have to praise God.

What should your fans be expecting from you?

They should expect success as they become more connected to my songs. Basically, my songs will bless people’s lives, because when we give glory to God, it gives Him joy.

Tell us about the hit song, Suddenly, and how it came about?

Suddenly is a story of God’s sudden blessings, and as I have always said, when expressing that goodness from God, it comes from within you, so, the production of the song was very fast. When I looked around everything God has done for me so far, and knowing where he is taking me to, all I can hear the world say is suddenly; that was basically why I titled the song, Suddenly. And that’s how it’s suddenly hitting the airwaves. Everything from the song production, which was shot, by one of Africa’s best video directors Clarence Peters was all perfectly executed in a short time.

You’re very fashionable and stylish. How do you keep up with the latest fashion styles and trends ?

Well, that’s what people say, but this is me; everyday, even when I’m indoor, I just want to try different looks. Whenever I’m coming out and whatever I put on is not by chance or by error and at the end of the day, people happen to compliment my looks, but it’s just my sense of understanding or explaining how beautiful my inside is.

If you had opportunity of changing anything in the Nigerian music industry, what would it be?

Seriously, I tell you this, I do not think there will be one thing I will want to change at present, because there are lots of beautiful talented acts all over Nigeria that have been recognised internationally and the Nigerian fans have really helped in making it acceptable worldwide. I would love the government to be more supportive to the industry.

A final word for anybody who wants to go into music?

Don’t stop… what I think you need mostly is, believing in yourself, and above all, trusting God.
