‘Subsidy removal, FX unification addressing economic inefficiencies’

President of the lnstitute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Dr Innocent Okwuosa, has said fuel subsidy removal and exchange rate unification have contributed to addressing inefficiencies and corruption within the economic system.

Okwuosa who is the 59th president of the institute, stated this when he led a delegation from ICAN on a visit to the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Olawale Edun.


Okwuosa commended the economic policies of the federal government and acknowledged that fuel subsidy removal and exchange rate unification had contributed to addressing the economic menace.

He appreciated the government for the trust reposed in ICAN members to help shape some of its economic policies. Specifically, he lauded the Federal Government on the case of the Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms Committee headed by Taiwo Oyedele, the Minister of Power, the Accountant General of the Federation, the Chairman of Federal Inland Revenue Services, and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Mrs Lydia Jafa, among others.

Okwuosa charged the government to include more accountants in its policy implementation to continue to drive its economic policies.

The ICAN president highlighted some of the institute’s contributions to economic developments in the country dating back to the times of the Doyen of the accountancy profession, Pa Akintola Williams, Mr Oronsaye, who chaired the committee that produced the most popular report on rationalisation of government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDA).
