A federal lawmaker representing Kano Municipal at the House of Representatives, Hon. Sha’aban Ibrahim Sharada, has unveiled a reintegration program for Kano students evacuated from Sudan as a result of the ongoing crisis.
The former Chairman of, the House Committee on Intelligence and Security, announced a sum of N50 million to re-enrol the affected students whose academic activities were disrupted in Sudan, into Nigerian universities.
Handing over the N50 million cheque to the beneficiaries at a ceremony held yesterday in Kano, Sharada disclosed that the assistance was deliberately conceived to enable innocent students to complete their academic program in the country.
Sharada, who is currently the Executive Secretary, of the National Almajirai and Out-of-School Children Commission of Nigeria, said he has secured admission for some of the returnees at Alqalam University, Katsina State.
He further pledged to continue supporting educational initiatives in line with his commission’s mission while expressing his readiness to collaborate with his successor, Engineer Sagir Koki, to continue with the trend of providing scholarships and grants to the constituents.
“Let me seize this opportunity to express gratitude for the appointment to serve as the Executive Secretary of the Almajirai and Out-of-School Children Commission.
“We won’t relent in our effort to continue supporting educational initiatives as we would continue with the trend of providing scholarships and grants in collaboration with my successor, Engineer Sagir Koki,” Sharada maintained.
Meanwhile, the lawmaker also gave a scholarship grant worth over N7 million to a total of 32 students to pursue their education at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).
Responding on behalf of the benefiting constituents, Gwani Yahuza Gwani Danzarga, said the intervention symbolized the commitment of the lawmaker in investing in education and fostering a brighter future for the youth.
He expressed gratitude on behalf of the community for having Sha’aban Ibrahim Sharada as the Executive Secretary of the Almajirai and Out-of-School Children Commission, an appointment he described as well-deserved and expressed confidence in his ability to make a positive impact on the commission’s objectives.
The event was attended by representatives from various organizations, including the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN), the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and the National Boundary Commission.
