Super Eagles will improve on FIFA ranking position soon, says NSC

The National Sports Commission (NSC) on Thursday expressed optimism that the Super Eagles would improve on the World FIFA Ranking.

Dr Ademola Are, Director, Grassroots Sports Development in the NSC, who expressed the optimism, said efforts were on to ensure the team returned to its good old days.

Are told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) was exploring ways of re-positioning the team for better performance.

“It is not encouraging for a country that was fifth some years back on the FIFA ranking to be in the 66th position.

“It is very much discouraging, but I can tell you that we can do better because l know that the people involved will not rest until Nigeria gets back to an enviable place on the ranking table,’’ he said.

NAN reports that Nigeria is currently occupying the 66th position in the world and 14th in Africa on the latest FIFA ranking with 541 points.

Belgium and Argentina are ranked first and second respectively, while Cote d’Ivoire occupies the first place in Africa and 19 in the world.

Nigeria had the best position on the ranking table when it climbed to the fifth place in the world and first in Africa after its first World Cup appearance in 1994.
