The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), yesterday, disclosed that its staff member implicated in an alleged case of 700 cattle has been questioned and handed over to the police for investigation.

Acting Head of the Directorate of Public Relations, Olasunkanmi Olajide, in a statement, disclosed that the institution launched a thorough investigation into the matter after it received reports of the missing cattle.

According to him, investigation revealed that many of the stakeholders accusing the university of fraud did not follow official procedures, but engaged directly with a staff of the Cattle Production Venture (CPV).

He said: “It is important to inform the public that many of the affected stakeholders involved in the issue have refused to cooperate with the police to assist in full investigation. They have also refused to show up in the court as witnesses. This might be due to their inability to bring legitimate documents to show that their cattle were with FUNAAB.”

According to him, that the case is now in court, demonstrates FUNAAB’s dedication to address the matter through legal means.

On the alleged missing 700 cattle, he clarified that the institution’s CPV facilities are not equipped to house such a large number of animals simultaneously.

Olajide emphasised the high standards maintained in FUNAAB’s facilities for the care and management of livestock. He expressed the university’s commitment to its core mandates of teaching, research, and extension services.

He added: “FUNAAB values the trust and confidence of its stakeholders and remains open to constructive dialogue and collaboration to address any concerns.”
