Six members of the Imo State House of Assembly who were recently suspended by the leadership of the House for alleged parliamentary misconduct have denied filing a suit in an Abuja Federal High Court to seek redress, insisting they were still exploring other options.
The affected lawmakers are: Uche Ogbuagu (Ikeduru), Dominic Ezerioha (Oru West), Philip Ejiogu (Owerri North), Kennedy Ibe (Obowo), Michael Onyemaechi (Ihitte-Uboma) and the Minority Leader, Anyadike Nwosu (Ezinihitte Mbaise).
It would be recalled that the House Chief Whip and member representing Nkwerre State Constituency, Obinna Okwara, had in press conference held at the Assembly complex weekend, said the House received a suit from one of the suspended lawmakers challenging the suspension.
But in a swift reaction, all the affected lawmakers, in separate statements, said none of them has had reason to approach any court or asked anybody to do so their behalf.
Ezerioha and Ogbuagu maintained that four of them, who are of the All Progressives Congress, were liaising with the leadership of the party in the state, led by Governor Hope Uzodinma, to intervene and resolve the impasse.
“I am not part of that suit and I never asked anybody to go to court for me. I am currently exploring all options in resolving my unwarranted suspension through the APC leadership in Imo State, which is the appropriate thing to do, first, as a democrat.
“I have currently channeled my grievance, with my fellow colleagues affected by the suspension, through the aforementioned option and trust there will be no need to go to court. Our approach is a bid to urge the party leadership to liaise with the Imo State House of Assembly leadership (which is ongoing).”
Also, speaking on behalf of the suspended Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmakers, Nwosu said: “Let me also state that the PDP members in the state Assembly have not approached any court to challenge the illegal suspension of its members by the Speaker of the House.
“Those peddling falsehood against my person and that of other PDP legislators must desist. We are committed to those who elected us to serve them at the hallowed chambers and at the right time, we will take the right decisions in line with the mandate given to us by the people.”
