In a transformative initiative, the TalkLove Africa Foundation (TAF) has embarked on a mission to equip visually impaired women between the ages of 18 and 40 with essential digital skills, fostering inclusivity and empowerment in Rivers State. Funded by the European Union, the main objective of the traning is to improve the employability of these women and contribute to the growth of their businesses through increased adoption of in-demand digital skills and equip those looking to launch a career in the digital space.
During the orientation program, the Program Manager Mrs. Cynthia Obinwanne stressed that the training would not only foster independence among the women but also unlock employment opportunities and facilitate their full participation in the digital economy.
The training is conducted in a participatory manner, with participants actively engaging in learning activities such as discussions, exercises, and hands-on practice. This allows them the opportunity to get acquainted with their devices.
The sessions, focuses on Digital Accessibility and Assistive Technology, aimed to provide participants with basic computer knowledge, fundamental knowledge to access specially adapted digital devices, ultimately enhancing their employability and entrepreneurial endeavors.
Supported by caregivers, the training sessions employed a participatory methodology, engaging participants in discussions, exercises, and hands-on practice. This approach ensured that each participant had the opportunity to become familiar with their devices and develop essential digital competencies.
The culmination of the training so far have seen participants immerse themselves in word processing using Microsoft Word, learning about saving files, various formats, and file extensions. Interactive Q&A segments allowed participants to seek clarification on complex areas, ensuring comprehensive understanding.
Reflecting on the impact of the training, participants expressed gratitude for the opportunity to enhance their digital skills, acknowledging the doors opened for future career opportunities and business ventures.
