Tanker explosion rocks Port Harcourt

A tanker carrying what is believed to be Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) exploded at the Obiri-Ikwerre Flyover along the East-West Road in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, on Tuesday morning.

The incident, which happened around 9:30 am, occurred when the tanker overturned and exploded while attempting to navigate the roundabout.

The explosion’s impact was so severe that it shattered windows in nearby buildings, and many residents felt the vibrations from kilometres away.

Firefighters were on the scene trying to extinguish the blaze, while a large crowd gathered to witness the aftermath, with a heavy security presence observed.

According to reports, the driver managed to escape before the explosion, and there were no reported casualties.

However, mild drama ensued when a suspected scavenger attempted to steal parts of the truck and was apprehended by the crowd, who handed him over to the police.
