Ever since his inspiring debut, last year, NuTrybe maverick Tar1q, has been on everyone’s radar as one of the most enchanting RnB voices in Africa. With his just-released single dubbed, Pretty Like, the young musician spreads his wings proudly across Afrobeats’ skies.
“Creating Pretty Like was inspired by a Sample I heard from a friend’s phone while she was scrolling through her Instagram feed,” he tells Guardian Music. “I heard it and decided to turn it into something continuous, which would work as a template for the whole song,as well as Violins to best interpret how I was feeling. That came out great, for just the beginning and the end. I sought to work with My partner in crime, Bola BMH, and he made sure the beat had a unique bounce.”
The song’s uniqueness ranges from Tar1q’s unique vocalisation – a butter-smooth glide across a mid-tempo bouncy pop beat, with stretchy falsettos. It’s Tar1q’s sonic signature, as shown in his earlier records like “Emotions,” “Signals,” among others.
On Pretty Like, Tariq also spotlights his pen-game, making a poetic dive into the evergreen narrative of complicated love.
“I wrote a story about a young man in denial of his feelings to a Pretty Girl, who’s fully aware that He’s seeing someone else but still loves his company.”
Pretty Like is out across all music streaming platforms.
