WOMEN wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has put machinery and strategies in place to ensure free and fair elections in Taraba State .
Among the strategy is a plan to mobilise women to monitor all the polling units s in the entire 16 local government councils and Yangtu Development Areas in the state.
The women, who stormed the premises of the former governor of the state, Jolly Nyame, yesterday said they would as well take it upon themselves to sensitise their children and wards on the dangers acting as thugs during elections.
The association Chairperson, Leah Olusiyi, said the issue of violence often experience in elections would be a thing of the past as the women have resolved to preach the gospel of peaceful general polls in Taraba State.
The women, who were drawn from the various Christian denominations operating in the state, also unanimously agreed to throw their weights behind the re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan.
Citing the numerous developmental projects the president had brought to the state in particular and the northern part of Nigeria in general, the women, who claimed to have the largest numbers of eligible voters, said their votes for the re-election of President Jonathan should be jealously guided.
Expressing their readiness to kick start House-to-House campaign for President Jonathan and the PDP governorship candidate for the state, Mr.Darius Ishaku, the women said that they “will neither be sycophants nor betray Jonathan.”
Overwhelmed by the multitudes of women presently campaigning for the re-election of Jonathan, Nyame said that “ women in Taraba State have not made any mistake by identifying with Jonathan.”
Nyame added that the support of women cannot be overlooked as they “are powerful”, adding, “even in the scripture I know women to be faithful.”
Nyame, who made known that the last “ four years are learning process for President Jonathan” said that the “next four years will be a transformation process”.
