Tems, Spinall to perform at 2024 Coachella

As the world grows fonder of Afrobeats, Nigerian musicians have continued to grace the revered stages of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, in California. With nearly half a million daily attendees, the 25-year-old festival has shaped the legacies of global stars who have graced its stages.

Joining the league of superstars is Nigerian icon, Tems, as well as celebrity disc jockey Spinall, who have been billed to perform at the show in April.  Another African billed to perform at the hallowed Empire Polo Grounds, California, is the South African pop diva, Tyla.

According to the organisers, DJ Spinall will have his set during the second weekend, while Tems’ performance is scheduled for the closing weekend of the double-weekend festival. The show is expected to be held on the second and third weekend in April.

The headlining acts for the 2024 edition include Lana Del Rey, Tyler The Creator, and Doja Cat. It will also feature performances from Tyla, Peso Pluma, J Balvin, Lil Uzi Vert, Skepta, Jon Baptiste, Ice Spice, Lil Yachty, and DJ Snake, among others.

Nigerian superstars have been a recurring part of Coachella since 2019 when Burna Boy had a row with the organisers over the perception of writing his name in tiny font on the lineup posters. In 2020, Grammy-nominated Afrobeat star Seun Kuti and his Egypt 80 Band performed at the festival. And, in 2022, CKay performed at the Coachella stage while Burna Boy also made a comeback appearance last year.
