Unidentified gunmen have abducted a young man known as Chima Ordu, in Ubima Community, in Ikwerre Local Council of Rivers State.

The abduction followed the invasion of the palace of the proclaimed paramount ruler of the community, Nnamdi Oscar- Omehia, in a foiled attempt to whisk him away.

Ubima, which is the country place of two former governors of the state, Sir Celestine Omehia, and Chibuike Ameachi, has been immersed in kingship tussle, which has deteriorated to attacks and counter-attacks on different factions.

The Guardian learnt that Oscar- Omehia, who addressed himself as the paramount ruler of Ubima community was on Sunday addressing a gathering in his palace when some men in police uniform, claiming to come from Police Area Command, Isiokpo, invaded the area in the company of an indigene, who Identified him for arrest.

He confirmed the development in a telephone interview, saying he escaped what he described as attempted assassination through the help of members of the community,  especially members of local vigilantes in the area who resisted the unknown persons.

The Monarch called on Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Friday Eboka to help rescue his brother whose whereabouts he said is still unknown.

He said: “I went home to have a meeting with my people on December 25, while I was addressing them and trying to set up committees to oversee different sectors of the community, some men dressed in police mufti with bulletproof jackets and AK 47 rifles walked into my palace and told me that I was under arrest.

“My brother asked one of them where they are coming from and one of them said they came from Area Command and then we asked again from which authority, they refused to disclose that but insisted on arresting me.

“Local vigilantes managed to smuggle me out of the village and the next thing I heard was that they have picked up one of my brothers, Chima Ordu and till now we do not know his whereabouts.

“His telephone has been switched off. Both the Ubima Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and the Area Command said they are both not aware of the incident.”

Also, the Isiokpo Area Command Station Officer told The Guardian that they did not send any of their officers to Ubima for any operation but promised to investigate the incident.

MEANWHILE, the DPO in charge of Ubima Police station, CSP Emmanuel Udekwe,  in a telephone interview confirmed that a team of police officers from force headquarters, Abuja, visited his station and booked for an operation, from which they are yet to return to inform him of their operation.

“The issue of operation is what I do not know but I know that a team of policemen came to my division and that is the only thing I know. They are from force CID, Abuja, I do not know whether they went to Oscar’s place.
“ Oscar did not tell us that he is doing anything so that we will be there. We are not aware, but we are trying to find out exactly what happened.

“But the truth is that people from Abuja came and they may actually be the people that went to his place because they came to the station and booked for operation and left for inquiry. They will return to tell us whether they have finished with the operation. So we will know if they are the ones that actually picked the brother or not, “ he said.
