Palpable tension, yesterday, gripped the Ogbomoso community in Oyo State, following the alleged shooting of a student by a yet-to-be-identified security agent.
The Guardian gathered that the incident occured at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso.
A source said a security agent allegedly gunned down the student and injured two others.
According to the source, the incident occurred when the security agent was invited to settle a misunderstanding between two people in the school.
“To settle the matter, the officer reportedly shot sporadically into the air. A student was gunned down in the process.
“Two other students were injured in the course of the shooting.
“The incident triggered a riot as students locked the school gates in protest, demanding justice for the deceased,” the source said.
Meanwhile, spokesperson for Oyo State Police Command, Adewale Osifeso, who confirmed the incident, said investigation is ongoing in the matter.
He said: “Investigation is ongoing. Updates would be provided accordingly please.”
