Tension in Ibadan as Igboho, Auxiliary loyalists engage in free for all

Barely three days after a gang of armed robbers attacked a bullion  van killing four people including two police officers at Idi Ape Iwo Road area, another tension broke out yesterday at Soka Area, as loyalists of Lamidi Mukaila, alias Auxiliary, leader of -Oyo State Motor Park Manager System and Yoruba self-determination fighter, Mr. Sunday Adeyemo aka Sunday Igboho, engaged in a free-for-all.

At about noon yesterday residents and motorists scampered for safety as the gangs displayed deadly weapons during the mayhem.

The cause of the pandemonium was not immediately known but informant said it has to do with issues of supremacy between the leaders of the gangs.

Meanwhile, Mr. Jimoh Ifakorede, who is believed to be Sunday Igboho’s deputy, alleged that Auxiliary, launched brutal attacks on one of their men.

Ifakorede narrated that the victim, Mr. Taiwo Rasheed, alias Asun, was sent on an errand when Auxiliary boys attacked him at Soka Junction.

“The incident happened in the early hours of Saturday when one of our boys, Rasheed  who was sent on an errand was brutally attacked by Auxiliary boys. The attack was a surprise one because nothing warranted it. He was going on bike without having issues with Auxiliary boys. We do not know whether Rasheed is alive or not because his body has been taken to an unknown destination.”

Ifakorede added that the incident has been reported to Sanyo Divisional Police Headquarters.

“Our leader, Chief Adeyemo Sunday Igboho has instructed us not to launch reprisal attack. Residents can confirm that except the victim, no other single member of Sunday Igboho family was there to launch reprisal attack. We are not going to take law into our hands. We will allow the Nigeria Police Force to conduct its full investigations and bring the culprits to book.”

Ifakorede accused Auxiliary boys of causing unrests in Oyo State.

MEANWHILE, lead counsel to Igboho, Yomi Aliyyu (SAN), confirmed the incidence that a coordinated attack took place on the Soka Residence of Yoruba Nation agitator.

He said armed thugs stormed Igboho’s residence and attacked associates of the Yoruba Nation campaigner.

He said the hoodlums attacked the same house of the agitator that the Department of State Services  attacked on July 1, 2021.

Worried by the developments most residents of Ibadan who were caught in the crisis said, “Insecurity is gradually taking over Oyo, especially Ibadan the state capital.”

As at the time of filing this report no official statement has been released by the state Police Command.
